Shocktech paintball joins software paintball challenge to benefit local charity

SolutionsIQ’s inaugural "Software Paintball Challenge" will consist of a team of employees from each SolutionsIQ, a Bellevue-based software consulting and development company, and BSQUARE, a software firm also headquartered in Bellevue, meeting at a wooded course in Sultan for a day of battle. Paintball battle, that is. The competition actually consists of a large game of "Capture the Flag" in the forest, with one notable wrinkle. Each participant is armed with an air-powered rifle that fires high velocity paintballs.

The teams will play a best of five-playoff format to determine a winner. The terms of the event agreed upon by both companies are that the losing team will make a $1,000 donation to the charity of the winning company’s choice. SolutionsIQ has announced that its team will be competing on behalf of Ryther Child Center, an organization that serves more than 3,000 children in the state of Washington each year with severe behavioral, developmental, or emotional problems due to violence, neglect, and physical and sexual abuse.

The event came about as a result of SolutionsIQ President and CEO, Doug Wright, meeting BSQUARE President and CEO, William Baxter, at a Seattle Mariners game during an event for United Way contributors. During their conversation, Wright shared with Baxter that SolutionsIQ put on a paintball event for its employees every few months. When Baxter shared his enthusiasm for the activity, it was only a matter of time until one entrepreneurial spirit issued the challenge to the other. Three months later, teams have been selected, the battle lines have been drawn, and one team will walk away with a generous donation for their charity, not to mention a lot fewer paintball welts.

Wright explained the challenge he issued by saying, "We each raved about what outstanding employees we are both fortunate enough to have and also found that we both really enjoy these kinds of stress-releasing activities. So it seemed logical to extend it into something that would be for a good cause outside the walls of our respective organizations as well. We’d love to eventually turn it into a yearly event and involve other area businesses."

SolutionsIQ is dedicated to becoming a preeminent leader in the computer industry by providing superior quality software solutions and services to businesses worldwide.
