Use of Paintball Guns Now Prohibited

At its January 5, 2004 meeting, the Lake Forest City Council unanimously approved an ordinance amending the City Code regarding the unlawful use of air rifles within the corporate limits of The City of Lake Forest.

Because of the potential for bodily injury, the definition of air rifle has been expanded to include paintball guns. Paintball guns are compressed gas guns filled with marble-size capsules containing paint. The ordinance change makes it a misdemeanor offense to discharge a paintball gun within The City of Lake Forest.

Injury data from the U. S. Consumer Product Safety Council indicates that paintball-related injuries nationwide have increased, including serious eye damage and loss of vision.

Organized paintball centers usually provide and require face masks.
